Being in the forest, especially of old growth trees, is the most humbling experience to me.
To see the World in a grain of sand and a Heaven in a wildflower
(from William Blake)
Encountering the enormity of the natural world. Finding that life has its own plan and my plan gets torn up. Realising it’s not about me.
The sea is humbling and all encompassing.
Every time I’m around nature I feel humbled and the lingering thought that we are a minuscule part of a large universe. Sometimes we give way too much importance to ourselves when in reality we almost don’t matter at all. (And I mean that in a good way)
Everywhere! I grew up in the woods of Pennsylvania, and spent so many hours among the trees and shrubs and flowers they are still among my best and favorite companions even now as a man in his sixties. Today, everyday, I am humbled by the majesty and patience of any tree, by the quiet, delicate grace of ground flowers, even the ancient history of a patch of moss or lichen. I have a reverence for the natural world that surpasses all else, and am humbled to be an infinitesimal part of the cosmos.
When I hold a wildflower or leaf. How amazing they are with colors, smells and infinite beauty. When I stop and look closely at each natural piece of the environment I feel humble at how it all unfolded and was created. Especially the Milky Way.
Living in a concrete jungle, when I jog along park connector, I felt humbled by the nature that took over and plants started to grow along the sides. The wild flowers pushes through the gap in the pavement and the birds that came to stay,
I find being in nature delightful, the beautiful, hilly mountains and countryside, beside the ocean; the flower gardens. Viewing a new moon is fascinating too.
In the natural world, I feel humbled in clear night skies far away from cities, where the stars and moon are clearly visible. I begin to realize just how small I am and how great the universe is.
Ha, ha … as distinct from the un-natural world. This morning..
Three screeching cockatoos
Dancing in the tree-tops
Piercing the dawn quiet
Heralding the sunrise
Being in regions with a lot of mountains and valleys. Awe inspiring.
These days the hazelnuts are to be collected and to have a chance and to pick them up was humbling and joyful, to just find such gifts which had just fallen down from the bushes next to our home, while in the same time hoping that there would be enough left for the squirrels and other animals living in our area to fill their winter storages. I will use them with care and will say a little prayer when having the pleasure to enrich my muesli with these fruits the next days to come.
Walking amongst the glorious Redwood Trees. I am in absolute awe of them. I am reminded of how insignificant I am in the world when I stand under them & look up. I thank them for their beauty & pray to them for strength.
I am also humbled by the mighty Pacific Ocean. She is magnificent & powerful. 🙏
Everywhere when my eyes are open, nowhere when my eyes are closed.
