    I don’t think we should choose one part ever. I know we all like a certain part of our body because it make us look better or appears good in a photo. But when it comes to choosing to take care and treasure, we should be sure to choose them all.

    This morning when I read this, I honestly could not think of an answer. My mind had nothing….but now, looking back on my day, it is crystal clear what I am grateful for and what I treasure of my body.
    Today, as planned, my husband and I went to Lily Lake, which is in Rocky Mountain National Park, but not really in it…but is part of it…some would argue it is in the Park, but not me. You can get to it easier than the rest and we have gone there for years…but over the past maybe 5 years, one of us has been ill, or had surgery, or something and haven’t been able to make the trip…it is about 1 1/2 hours from our home, so is not that close, really….anyway, today we left and took our picnic lunch with us, bug spray and sunblock, and off we went…and it was grand! I now know I treasure every body part I have, no matter how imperfect it is, because this body got this soul to that Park! We had a lovely picnic lunch, and did the Lily Lake Loop. And we both made it! Although the Loop is only .8 miles, at 9,000 feet altitude, it takes awhile, and alot of energy to make it all the way around. But we did and it was worth the effort.
    We saw Mount Meeker and Longs Peak from a distance, as well as the Continental Divide, if you knew what that grey colored bunch of moundy-looking stuff was in the distance. And we did. Without the strength and dexterity of these bodies, we couldn’t have done it, but we did., So now I know for certain I treasure every used, old, and imperfect part of this body, and am very grateful!

      Mary: Thank you for providing a visual in my mind’s eye of Rocking Mountain National Park. That’s where my late husband of 41 years and I spent our honeymoon. Love the memory and love your depiction.

    I don’t treasure my body as I should since it is a gift from God. Occasionally I do notice and give thanks for this gift. I use my five senses, brain and voice daily. I realize how important they are to me and how my life depends on them. I am consciously improving my physical self-care though I have much room for improvement. I pray often for increased consciousness and commitment to physical self-care. My recent emergency surgery made this need more apparent to me.

    A laughter and gratitude exercise I lead goes…
    “I love my body…thank you body…
    Group repeats.
    I love my brain…thank you brain…
    Group repeats.
    I love my eyes….thank you eyes…
    Group repeats.
    I love my ears…etc.”

    Chanted on down through the body like an army drill. Everyone laughs at their bum and tum and has a hard time meaning it. Great way to get back into this amazing earth life experience vehicle. I never tire of it.

    It is all too easy to focus on bits you don’t treasure, but as some people have already said, our body is a whole package, which allows us to do so much, both for ourselves and for others, to enjoy the amazing world out there and to be part of that wide world.

    I treasure my eyes bc they are always changing and I treasure my skin because it needs a little extra love and care while I am healing my mind, body, spirit, and living abundantly. Thank you for my many blessings that I gladly receive.

    The ones I don’t treasure are easier to find – I have what Ursula LeGuin once described as a ‘long pleated Irish upper lip’ and when Zoom softens my image, it seems to think that some of the ‘pleats’ in my upper lip need to be retained in all their hard edges! [I’m zooming at a virtual conference this week.]

    I treasure my legs. They are strong for all the walking I do. I also treasure my feet. Despite the usual issues that I and many women have after wearing heels and poorly fitting shoes in our youth, they still carry me around!

      Oh yes !
      I have been a walker/ hiker too for years .
      So appreciate my legs and feet !
      I was lucky in my profession ( nurse )that I was able to wear athletic shoes in the work world all these years .
      Saved my feet so I can still do those miles now !

    Today, especially my fingernails and the dirt underneath, as they speak of the time today when I felt happy and grateful for the chance to digging in the soil for caring for the place outside, while the sun was shining on the delicate white-rose roses on top of the rose arbor. A moment of inner peace and joy, for which I am grateful to share with all of you here.

    As one can tell from the array of responses, this question was a toughie. So…trying to stay true to the question posed…I came up with two parts…both because when they were injured or out of commission for a period I came to appreciate them and realize how much I take them for granted. And those two parts are…my ribs and my hands. Try doing the most mundane things when you have broken ribs or a hand in a cast and you’ll understand my response.

    I welcome this time to appreciate and care for my body, which cares for me and allows me to do and appreciate so much.

    This week I am especially appreciative of digestion. I have had increasing digestive issues (not sure if it is a food allergy or IBS), but I have decided to be proactive to help it, and find habits and foods (and maybe probiotics) to heal it. I welcome this partnership with my body and the communication that it gives me, as well as the multitude of ways, each day, it serves me.
