I need one of these! My monkey mind is all over the place when I try to sit still and meditate.
I am a daydreamer… Being able to escape into my imagination is an exceptional tool that helps relieve anxiety. For me, sometimes leaving that safe space can be difficult versus going there.
A place I revisit in my mind that inspires awe and peace is an English field of rapseed in bloom – beautiful fields of yellow and green. The breeze gently rippling the field.
Being aware that there are three options: imagination, memory or being here now. I strive for this moment, experiencing it moment by moment. It is beyond peace. It is bliss.
Perhaps embracing a mantra or holy name. Perhaps more physically inside a pristine forest without any signs of the developed world in sight.
I lack insight otherwise perhaps I wouldn’t need a special place outside to touch peace more often.
Sometimes it is just lying down on my yoga mat listening to a good book as I so seldom take time to just rest. I also agree with so many who said nature. It could be noticing things on a neighborhood walk or visiting a wonderful park. I will post some pictures in the Gratitude Lounge of Arcadia Dunes: The C.S. Mott Nature Preserve in Michigan, a place I often visit in my mind. Or, it could just be a bunny in my backyard. I gives them carrots in the winter when I make dinner. They actually sit and wait for them.
We feed our “yard bunnies” too, Rabbit. This summer we had two different burrows with baby rabbits–so cute!
My neighbor had some too. Will try to post a picture in the Gratitude Lounge. Do you feed them carrots?
On the North Shore of Oahu in a park called sacred Falls. Behind the Falls there is a spot where I used to sit all the time and watch the waterfall and all of the beautiful nature on the outside. Under falls the water kept me safe and sound was so peaceful.
Always something to do with being in nature for me. It doesn’t have to be a memory of a specific place but thinking of being near water or in the woods is always calming.. And thinking of lying on my back in the grass as a child looking at the blue sky.
Creeks, streams and rivers. When I stand amid the rocks and rapids of a stream, mending my fly line, the water just flows through me washing away any concerns or worries. I become peace. I become stillness. I am transfixed in the moment. I can return to this place anytime I close my eyes and get still.
Forests are my places for peace and calm. Now is my favourite time to be there, but when they are a fresh green in spring, they are the most calming to me. And if a river winds through them…well, then I like to sit on its banks and let my worries flow away with the water.
There are so many beautiful places that make me feel peaceful and calm. Sprucewoods Provincial Park on a weekday was the first that sprang to mind, though. When you google it and look at images you might understand why. 🙂 It is in Manitoba, Canada, about a two-hour drive southwest of Winnipeg. Closer to where I live is Beaudry Provincial Park. Also very peaceful. I better stop because now all my peaceful places just tumble into my mind. 😀
My special place is by the sea- the noise, the gentle rhythm of the waves and that greeny- blue colour. That place makes me feel in the moment…and the moment is good.

Carol, are you from the Palouse?? I was born in Lewiston, ID, went to college in Pullman, WA, so I immediately recognized the name of this park.
When meditating, I sometimes imagine that I am sitting on the exposed roots of a large oak tree, with my back to the trunk, and across from me, sitting in the lotus position, is the Buddha, also meditating.
A little like Ferdinand the bull, sitting on a little hill, under his cork oak, peacefully smelling the flowers.
Ooh, I like that Charlie – the oak tree and its trunk and roots and the Buddha! I’ll save that to my gratefulness doc. And Ferdinand’s cork oak – those were on the ‘west campus’ near my old home and I was fond of them 🙂
