Day 27: Activate Your Inner Galileo
Reflect
When the 17th-century Italian astronomer Galileo proposed that the earth revolved around the sun, it was revolutionary to European thought and so threatening to the status quo that he was placed under house arrest for the rest of his life. For every such famous transformational understanding or discovery, there are millions of smaller but seismic shifts in our understanding of things that can change the way we live — releasing a long-held story, forgiving or being forgiven, committing to a cause, discovering a calling in life. These small revolutions depend on the willingness to see beyond the status quote to a different possibility.
Practice
Bring your attention to a current personal or global concern that feels unmovable or heavy. Write it down and then, instead of saying, “I don’t know what to do,” activate your inner Galileo and ask, “What’s possible? How can I look at this differently? What’s wise?” Write down three ideas that emerge from this shift in perspective, and take courageous action where you’re able.
