Day 46: Awaken to Awe

Reflect

You share something in common with every person, creature, rock, and tree. As the physicist Chet Raymo describes, “Every atom in my body was forged in a star. When the universe exploded into being, already the bird longed for the wood and the fish for the pool. When the first galaxies fell into luminous clumps, already matter was struggling toward consciousness.” All of us are part of a magnificent origin story that continues to unfold. But we humans have been given the opportunity to continue the struggle toward a higher consciousness. Recognizing and reclaiming this opportunity can transform our ability to respond to life with an expanded sense of purpose and possibility.

Practice

Greet your place in our remarkable origin story by remembering your place in the family of all things. Throughout your day, pause and gaze at an object, person, bird, or your meals with the knowledge that your body and life are connected to a web of life, sustained by other atoms. How does this awareness that you are connected to everything boggle your mind and increase your appreciation for the gift of consciousness?
