100-Day Gratitude Challenge
Day 91: Be the Author of Your Life
The 10-Day Countdown Begins! 10…
Reflect
Imagine opening a beautifully-wrapped box the size of a large book. The paper is handmade, the ribbon is silk. You open it with care and inside find the story of your life. It’s bound in soft leather with gold lettering. You run your fingers down the smooth spine and slowly flip through pages of words and images, delighted by the treasured memories and saddened by the painful ones. And then you get partway through the book and discover the blank pages that are as yet unwritten. There may be whole chapters still to go or only a handful left ahead, but there they are, reminding you that this is still your story to write. While the plot specifics of your life ahead are impossible to know, you get to decide how you want to live, what you want the tone of your story to be, and what you hope an imaginary future reader would feel if they read your story. With intention, you get to decide much of what ends up on the blank pages that remain. You are the author of your life.
These last 10 days of the 100-Day Challenge invite you to consider how you want to live in the days ahead. You’ll have a chance to look back, metabolize the journey so far, and make a plan for continuing to live your grateful life. You’ll notice that the practices become more reflective in nature — invitations to think about what you need in order to live your most alive, flourishing life, even in these troubled times.
Practice
On the first day of the Challenge, you wrote a few headlines describing the world as you wish it were. You created these headlines as a vision to work toward. For today, write 2 or 3 titles that you’d love to see on the cover of the beautiful book about your life described above. What titles would reflect the grateful life you are trying to live? Have some fun with this, and post your titles where you’ll see them. Let them be reminders of the story you want to be living each day.
