Day 96: Create a Home Within

The Countdown Continues: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5…

Reflect

To help heal the fractured world, we have to remember that we belong to it. And to belong to it, we have to first belong to ourselves. Maya Angelou writes, “We may act sophisticated and worldly, but I believe we feel safest when we go inside ourselves and find home, a place where we belong.” Without this foundation of belonging, it can be tough to show up courageously to the people and world around us. As you deepen your gratefulness practice beyond these 100 days, don’t forget to create a home within, that place where you can listen to your innermost voice and where your heart can rest. Julia Fehrenbacher puts it beautifully in the last lines of her poem The Most Important Thing: “I am making a home inside myself where grace blooms in grand and glorious abundance, a shelter of kindness that grows all the truest things. I whisper hallelujah to the friendly sky. Watch now as I burst into blossom.”

Practice

In this world full of challenges both global and personal, how do you want your gratefulness practice to help you create a home within? How can living gratefully help you “burst into bloom”?
