Day 38: Do Not Rush – Enjoy!

Reflect

Every tree, houseplant, shrub, and leaf of lettuce you encounter can be a reminder to enjoy life. Remaining firmly in its place — from moss to a sycamore, from way up high to beneath your feet — these living organisms metabolize what they need from life. Unlike trees, we are a species on the move and often in a rush to be somewhere else. In our frenzy, we frequently miss the beauty around us, the opportunity to make a deep connection beyond the surface, and the gifts that always accompany our appreciation. A plant does not just receive light as nourishment, it transforms it. When we stop moving and pause to enjoy the people, places, and gifts within our place of being, we make soul food, like a tree turning light into sugar.

Practice

In a go-go-go world, take the time to intentionally slow down as much as you can today. Metabolize today. With intention, take the time to enjoy a conversation, beauty outside your window, a meal or treat, and the gift of today’s experiences. How has taking the time to enjoy your day changed your mood?
