100-Day Gratitude Challenge
Day 97: Live in Radical Amazement
The Countdown Continues: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4…
Reflect
If living gratefully offers a superpower, it’s the ability to see anew — to notice the smallest joys, to be present to the greatest sorrows, and to get flashes of insight about how everything is connected. If you go through one hour and ask yourself, “What would my life be without this thing, and this one?,” you can’t be anything but astonished. Without trees? Without stars? Without love? Without water? Without warmth? The list is infinite. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel reminds us, “Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement… The stars in the sky, the miracle of life, the beauty of the world — these should evoke in us not only awe but a deep sense of responsibility… To marvel is to be moved to stewardship.” Live in radical amazement. Do all you can to care for the world.
Practice
How do you want your practice of living gratefully to help you live in radical amazement? When you’re awake to the world in this way, what is one specific way you feel called to care for it?
