Day 75: Be Passionate about Possibility

75 days down, 25 to go!

Congratulations on making it three quarters of the way through the 100-Day Gratitude Challenge — you’ve got this! Here’s your checklist for the final 25 days.

Reflect

The 19th-century philosopher Søren Kierkegaard describes hope as passion for the possible. In a compelling values statement, he writes, “Were I to wish for anything I would not wish for wealth and power, but for the passion of the possible, that eye which everywhere, ever young, ever burning, sees possibility.” It’s a challenge to each of us: Would we choose wealth and power or the ability to see possibility with clarity and passion? In a kind of infinite loop, the latter is both an embodiment of hope and an invitation to hope. Hope results from passion for the possible, and passion for the possible gives power to hope.

Practice

Go on a possibility hunt today. Focusing on one area of your life where things feel stagnant or challenging, get passionate about discovering what’s possible. This might include anything from nurturing a relationship, allowing joy to come alongside despair, taking community action, having a necessary conversation, or seeking beauty. No matter how small it may seem, find one possibility that you can tend as you would the first shoot of green in a spring garden.
