100-Day Gratitude Challenge
Day 57: Spread Some Joy!
Reflect
In 2009, Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin, built a small, 3-dimensional replica of a one-room schoolhouse, mounted it on a post in his front yard, and filled it with books. Thus was born the first Little Free Library, prompting a movement that now includes over 50,000 registered Little Free Libraries on all seven continents. Take a book. Leave a book. It’s that simple — so simple, in fact, that it has inspired similar projects, including Little Free Pantries and Little Free Art Galleries. The impact? Books, food, art, seeds, toys, and more circulate, ideas are shared, neighbors chat, and a good dose of joy is offered to anyone who passes by.
Practice
Commit to spreading some joy today. Call someone just to say hi, send an uplifting text, share a song or poem, make cookies for a neighbor, leave a kind note in the refrigerator, or simply say a warm hello to everyone you encounter. Try to commit at least 3 acts of joy. At the end of the day, consider how it impacted you to intentionally share joy with others, and take a moment to imagine all the ripple effects your joy may be having!
