I didn’t create anything today, but I think I showed a few people that it’s possible to take pride in a clean outhouse. I showed people that even an “undignified” job such as mine can also be creative. Maybe creating change means taking something that people overlook and making it matter.
I am here today, visiting my father and friends, and a cousin whom i saw last when he was around nine years old, and I might have been around 12, and by now he is in pension. i hope to contribute to peace in our family which was disturbed to disruption by something we did not understand when we were kids, but it overshadowed my father´s state unti these days, until my cousin unexpectedly came to visit hm at his birthday. My father cried in relief when he realized who came to visit and to celebrate with him. It changed part of his inner turmoil into peace with his elder brother long passed, who could not forgive his mother, my grandma, even at her deathbed and also not him, my father, for whatever reason i don´t know.
Small changes
make a big difference
with time and consistency,
with love and generosity.
I had nowhere to create change out in the world today,
but within my own little sphere
I did,
and the first thing upon getting up
was to make my bed.
To tell the truth,
I used to be more than a little haphazard with this task,
and often went to bed at day’s end
among rumpled sheets
and blankets that had been balled up
during the night before.
However,
with time
my patient husband
taught me into the habit,
and now my sense of being
is much better for doing it . . .
what I take out into polite society in the morning
projects serenity and joy
and what I bring into my dreams at night
brings comfort and rest.
I also worked on my little plot of land,
pulling weeds and outlaw grass
out of the border of my bluestone sitting area . . .
I believe
that doing this little thing
makes me a more centered being.
Hands in the rich, dark earth,
fingers finding roots,
and giving my ajuga more room
to stretch their legs
makes them more content as well.
All of this wafts out into the universe
and contributes to a song of plenty
and peace,
positive intentions
and grace
that is felt in small doses
wherever the wind carries it. ♥
I’ve been on the road all morning…took the car to my mechanic for oil change and tire rotation. I always enjoy seeing him and tell him so. Then I went to the grocery store and smiled at other shoppers. I did see a small child whose ankle gave way when he walked. It was heartbreaking but all I could do was send love his way. I will be home alone the rest of today so I will do my best to put love into all I do and be totally present in the doing. The best thing I can do for the world and myself is to grow in self awareness. I can’t contribute something to change the world unless I first create it in myself. You can’t give something away that you don’t have. May we all be the peace we seek.
I won’t be out in the world today, as I am working from home, so there won’t be much interaction with others. But I will do my best to spread peace and kindness to others and importantly, to treat myself with the same care and sensitivity.
i can create space for breath. I feel like so much of our society (im speaking mostly about the US but also other places) prioritizes being busy and always doing something. I think if we all gave ourselves more space to stop, look, and go like br. David teaches, then we would all be a bit happier and rested.
I’ll be attending a celebration of a Complete Streets project my agency built in a small town in northeast Washington. Such projects redesign a road that was dedicated to driving through town rapidly to add facilities and improved safety for people walking or biking, or needing to cross the street, making it a place to travel to, not just through.
I understand locally there was some concern about the changes (as well as appreciation and excitement from people who now can walk and bike more safely on the state highway that runs through town). I’ll seek to create positive energy and enthusiasm at the celebration event. I want to see more of these kinds of streets and to get sporty for finding we need people to understand and appreciate their value and ask for more. I know change is hard and acknowledging that will be part of my enthusiasm. Empathy with enthusiasm, that’s what I’ll seek to carry with me.
You are right,
dear Barb . . .
change is hard,
whether welcome or not.
The combination of empathy and enthusiasm
makes for a good recipe
in approaching conflict.
Best wishes
and good luck today . . . ♥
I will celebrate the Fall Equinox in some creative way, and continue creating my “creative craft room” where I can grow my creativity and crafting skills and imagination.
I wrote a blog post this weekend for equinox. Sharing something i learned in doing some research for it:
The equilux, the actual half-and-half division, happens a few days after the equinox, much to my surprise. The Farmer’s Almanac explains:
“The Latin root says “equal night,” but the day of the equinox is not actually the day day and night come out exactly even at most places. That day is the equilux, and in the Northern Hemisphere it falls a few days after the September equinox. Two effects pull the dates apart: the Sun is a disc, not a point, so sunrise begins the moment the top edge clears the horizon, and Earth’s atmosphere bends sunlight, letting us see the Sun slightly before it rises and slightly after it sets.
Together those effects add several minutes of daylight to the equinox day. For most of the continental United States, the equilux in 2026 lands between September 25 and 27, with northern states reaching equal day and night a day or two earlier than southern ones. After that, the night side runs ahead, and the days shorten in earnest.” https://www.farmersalmanac.com/fall-equinox-first-day-of-fall
The computer and all-day screen time are part of the accommodations that help me with studying and working. Besides that, I aim to stay away from buying smart devices for my house. I want to turn on the lights with my hand and be more active by moving around and doing chores instead of relying on robots to do my work. I wish to see the next generation growing up in the beauty of nature, not in a world dominated by technology.
Posting photos of the extraordinary “elephant migration” life size sculptures in Boston last week. They are touring the country to inspire and foster raise funds for animals and humans coexisting in India.
I was curious
so I had to look this up,
dear Maeve . . .
how moving
and lovely
and soul soothing
to see these elegant creatures in Boston.
I hope others are so moved.
Thank you for taking us there. ♥

It sounds like a bit of peace has been restored,
dear Ose,
in your family.
What a blessing for you all,
but perhaps the most
for your father. ♥

I signed up a couple of days ago to volunteer at a Veteran’s Breakfast helping out. One small thing I can do 💕
No small thing at all,
dear Robin Ann. ♥

ps. I think you are going in soon
for some medical treatment,
and want you to know
that you will be
especially in my heart.((( ♥ )))
