Grateful Grief: A Guide for Living with Loss
Join us this fall for a six-week, self-guided course that explores the empowering and nurturing ways that the practice of gratefulness can sustain and guide you when living with grief and loss.
Where do we turn for solace and guidance in the midst of grief and uncertainty? Grief arrives in many forms and disrupts both the life we love and the life we have. As prevalent as breath, it is part of every human story, requiring us to reorient to days and lives we had not imagined.
The practice of grateful living nourishes our daily lives and empowers us to find meaning and purpose in unexpected places — to show up to the uninvited life that is emerging in the wake of loss. This grateful stance acknowledges heartbreak and despair, while building our capacity to carry our sorrow alongside our joy. Yearning for what was and embracing what is, blessing the departures that birth the mystery of new arrivals — this is grateful grief.
The course is taught by Joe Primo, CEO of Grateful Living, and Sheryl Chard, Director of Education, along with special guests Francis Weller, Susan Cain, David Whyte, Dacher Keltner, and Patricia June Vickers. The journey is enriched by Joe’s deep experience in the field of grief and bereavement.
I’m better able to hold grief and gratitude at the same time with no need to let go of one in order to embrace the other.Gaye R., course participant
How It Works

- Each week’s resources will remain available to you through December 31, 2023. If you don’t get to a weekly session right away, no worries. Go at your own pace. Love what you heard in a session and want to return to the teachings or guest speakers? You can do so during this period.
- Through our online community space, you’ll have the option to share your reflections and interact with our team and others in the course.
- The course will culminate in an optional live session hosted by Grateful Living CEO Joe Primo and Director of Education Sheryl Chard.
As a hospice chaplain and grief counselor I know a lot about the grief process, but I found new perspectives and offerings here. As a new widow myself, I was blessed with insights, courage, and compassion.Deborah C., course participant
