Day 3: Realign with Your True North

Reflect

As any pilot, ship captain, or backpacker knows well, true north is a fixed point on the globe, while magnetic north, the north on a compass, fluctuates. Every few hundred years, the two align briefly, but most of the time there’s a gap that has to be accounted for. The results of failing to do so can range from inconvenient to exhausting to fatal. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait years to align our personal true north and our actual lived experience.  Every day, we have the opportunity to align our values and actions, our hearts and minds, our beliefs and behaviors. And just as when using a compass, our ongoing attunement is essential for the journey.

Practice

Take time today to check in with your personal true north. List three ways that there’s meaningful alignment between your desired way of being in the world and your daily life; take a moment to give thanks for these. Next, identify one aspect of your life where your personal compass needs a bit of adjustment. What’s one thing you could do differently today to tend a gap between values and action, heart and mind, or belief and behavior?
