As we embark on our 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, we are seeking candidates to join our growing board of directors and support our organizational impact.
About
We are a global nonprofit organization that was founded in 1969 to empower people to live meaningful lives through the transformative practice of grateful living. Our evidence-based programs, educational workshops and courses, retreats, and the content on our website are designed to support daily life and connection during times of joy and adversity.
The Grateful Living Board of Directors is comprised of mission-driven, ambitious, and innovative leaders across sectors and disciplines. This group is charged with the oversight of our governance, financial stewardship, and strategic growth.
As we embark on our 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, we are seeking candidates to join our growing team and support our organizational impact.
What’s Ahead for Grateful Living
By 2027 we will:
- Increase our audience by 150% from 100,000 to 250,000.
- Be financially sustainable with a cash reserve and more resources to grow the staff and programs.
- We will expand our local, national, and global programs to meet the needs of those yearning for connection, meaning, and purpose through partnerships and content development.
The Organizational Opportunity:
We are working to answer the following questions:
- How do we sustainably grow an international movement and become a go-to resource?
- How do we build towards acquiring a facility for retreats and training?
- How do we leverage being a “lifestyle brand?”
- How do we build effective partnerships within the wellness and spirituality marketplace that:
- Amplify our work as experts on gratefulness/gratitude
- Grow our audience
- Ensure our financial health and opportunities
The Opportunity to Serve
The Board of Directors
This leadership role is responsible for supporting the CEO and the organization with both organizational governance and strategies to advance its mission. This is a three-year term. Board members are expected to:
- Meet quarterly
- Be engaged through participation on a committee each month
- Make a meaningful donation or support solicitation to obtain funds, partnerships, or opportunities that materialize resources.
Candidates Attributes We Seek:
We are seeking candidates who have strengths in one or several of the below areas:
- Diversity of thought, experience, and identity
- Purpose: to enrich our perspective
- Experience in finance
- Purpose: to serve as our future Treasurer
- A network of international NGOs within the spirituality and social justice space
- Purpose: to strengthen our international network with on-the-ground organizations in countries where Grateful Living can have an impact
- Strong experience in lifestyle brands, including but not limited to publications, products, or organizations
- Purpose: to develop strategies and tactics for brand recognition, audience growth, and program expansion
- Experience running national health and wellness awareness campaigns
- Purpose: to effectively promote the grateful living movement through sustainable and effective tactics
- Experience launching and growing a popular podcast in the wellness or spirituality space
- Purpose: to support the development and ongoing growth of our new communication channel
- A network of retreat centers that operate spiritual programs
- Purpose: to help grow our audience and provide us with affordable rental space until we have a retreat center of our own.
- A network of Chief Wellness / Resilience Officers within Corporate America
- Purpose: to build a network for corporate partnerships/sponsorships and audience growth
- Experience turning around nonprofit budgets
- Purpose: out of the box thinking for revenue generation
- Experience training fundraisers
- Purpose: strengthen the board’s skills in fundraising
Our Process
If you are interested, you are encouraged to apply before November 10, 2023.
- On November 10, we will begin reviewing all applications and reach out to candidates who we believe can help us meet our goals.
- Following preliminary conversations, final candidates will be presented to the Nominating Committee for an interview.
- Top candidates will go before the board for a vote before January 1, 2024.
