SOURCE OF ALL BLESSINGS,
you bless us every moment with
countless hidden things on
which our well-being depends,
though we will never know them —
from the water veins hidden deep
in the earth to the bacteria that
help us digest our food. May I pass
on blessings unnoticed for the
well-being of all.
Sense how it feels to honor the innumerable hidden things that make our lives — and life itself — possible, profound, and so often, pleasurable. When we allow ourselves to acknowledge our interdependence with, and dependence on, things we may never know, see, or understand, it expands our capacity for humility and connection.
“May this patchwork quilt of blessings help to sharpen your taste for the gift of life in its innumerable facets,” Br. David writes. “May you grow ever more blessed, ever more able to bless.”
Should you be inspired, please leave a reflection below…

I’ve put my writng out there for the love of it, and sometimes others let me know it touched them…many times you’ll just never know . It’s like planting a seedling and never seeing the tree.
I like this idea of bringing awareness to hidden things, hidden actions, things (or people) whose work isn’t always thought of because it is often done ‘behind the scenes’–the people who wash the table linens and aprons and towels in a restaurant, the people who mop the floors in a hospital, the people who work to keep our power lines up and our water sources maintained, teachers we had long ago, farmers who grow grain for our bread, IT departments that keep us networked. Thanks to each and every one.
I’m a day behind with this as I spent all of yesterday in a&e with chronic back pain, collapse and vomiting. Thankfully I’m a bit improved today and reading this reflection from yesterday I think well – the blessing of this experience is about respecting my body more, slowing down and being. I have no choice at the moment and I’m happy to embrace the stillness right now ?
I hope you are feeling better today.
Thank you, Julie. I do feel a lot better, thankfully ?? Thank you for asking.
May I become a “patchwork quilt of blessings to others” each day.
My gratitude to you for this lesson.
I love the image of being a patchwork quilt of blessings – the blessings we bestow and the blessings we receive can by so varied yet all are welcome and wonderful
it is raining today. As l look out at the huge maple trees, branches and leaves swaying in the mild breeze, l am filled with gratitude for this day. Rain always comforts me, giving me a feeling of security, May l be like the trees and bow in gratitude; like the rain and give back in love.
Good morning! I am a year in to recovering from a life changing ruptured brain aneurysm. In the last couple of months I have been deeply aware of this….bringing me to a point of overflowing with and in gratitude for things seen and unseen, known and unknowable. “I” ,and my life are deeply woven in to the ever changing tapestry of life. I am so humbled to be here still, and given the opportunity, as Rumi, says, for another day of loving. Blessings dear ones.
This piece just gave me pause for thought. Thank you.
