I don’t remember much about my toddler years
except for those fairy ballerina flowers on the mimosa tree
in our yard . . .
feathery and pink.
I thought they were the most beautiful things I had ever seen,
and I can still see them
in my mind’s eye.
What a great thing
my mind’s eye is.
It can see beyond the dim hallway
and way past my computer screen . . .
my mind’s eye can summon up those mimosa flowers
wherever I am in my day,
or in the world,
whatever I am doing
at any time.
The moments of awe I have had
will stay with me
as long as my mind’s eye can see . . .
my first child
emerging from my body,
slippery and wet,
screaming in protest.
Awesome.
The four sunsets I witnessed
over the Grand Canyon one evening
when I was twelve.
Awesome.
The seagull that hatched in my hand,
like it was the most perfectly natural thing to do.
Awesome yet again.
The flock of cedar waxwings
taking a break in my wild cherry tree
on their migration south,
looking like a gang of bandits
as they filled their bellies with fruit . . .
Awesome, awesome, awesome.
My life has been long
and there have been many of these moments.
They have taught me
that there is a benevolent Universe,
Great Spirit, Divine Source,
if we must give it a name,
that can ease our pain
and bring us home,
even when all seems lost. ♥
That all is well, and all will be well and always was well. This was pure bliss. After many years now it starts to be integrated to my being, finally coming back to joy, faith and trust after having had the great but as well greatly painfull opportunity to gain consistent trust through having been helped to finally meeting deepest fear, of having had the chance to learn to love and to be grateful for all gifts life offers, included the most difficult and painful ones. Moments of awe are precious jewels where His Love shines directly into the soul, and some of these will never leave me again. This shining Light through experiencing awe was a guide to me to find way to coming back to our true home and gives a hint that In fact, we are already there, have ever been and will be always. It is all included. Thank you dearly.
Indeed,
dear Ose,
these moments
are precious jewels
that in some form or another
will be with us forever.
Thank you for your wise and insightful response. ♥
As I think about moments of awe, I realize that it’s more about my ability to perceive it, than the actual thing or event. Staying open and being curious and getting out of my head is the way that awesomeness becomes available to me.
In the moments of awe, I discovered that something special is not because that thing rarely appears, but because of how I perceive it. For example, my morning coffee of course has the same taste every day. It’s just more special today because I sip it calmly and slowly. Happy Friday, everyone!
Building my BosLoc umpire makes me feel extra protected. Branching out becomes 2nd nature. Exploration gives me a greater appreciation for my root people and what they do for me regardless of our differences.
Barb and Mary, BosLoc=Boston+Loc. I’m a huge Boston Celtics fan, because their traditional values driven approach with little to no drama as a big market franchise resignates with me. They’re the NBA franchise with the most championships of all with 18 winning the last one in 2024. Many people talk about Bill Russell and Larry Bird there. You can’t talk about Larry Bird without bringing up Magic. Same with Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. The Ghoston Celtics and LA Lakers are tied together. The Lakers are the high-maintenance franchise full of starpower and storylines. Opposites attract.
JoAnn, that’s a common habit here in the west. The western way of thinking is complicated. We make many ponds out of puddles. Been there done all that. Already being from the east, I’m fortunate to already have the best of both worlds. A laid back lifestyle increases fluid intelligence making me an even faster learner capatilizing on my nature. As for less overthinking, learning to look past my agendas has helped me. I find that right motivation goes a long ways.

I’ve often wondered about the relationship between “fear and awe.” The mindset that comes from use of the word “awe” is very different from the mindset that comes from use of the word “fear.” Scripture often admonishes us to “fear the Lord” when it seems to me that it would be better translated to say “trust in the Lord–be in awe.” Life has taught me that fear clings and awe lets go. I leave you with a quote from Thomas Merton: “For the world and time are the dance of the Lord [Life-giver] in emptiness. The silence of the spheres is the music of a wedding feast. The more we persist in misunderstanding the phenomena of life, the more we analyze them out into strange finalities and complex purposes of our own, the more we involve ourselves in sadness, absurdity and despair. But it does not matter much, because no despair of ours can alter the reality of things; or stain the joy of the cosmic dance which is always there. Indeed, we are in the midst of it, and it is in the midst of us, for it beats in our very blood, whether we want it to or not.”

I only need to leave the door open to our home. Thank you dear Sparrow.
That’s right,

you get it. ♥

From moments of awe; I delight in the experience….and once again I am brought to know that there is a God….who makes all of this possible.
♥
Nannette, I notice it more the closer I am with god.

How good they make me feel. Pure Joy….

From moments of awe, I have discovered how quickly my frame of mind can shift.
In the moments of awe, I discovered that something special is not because that thing rarely appears, but because of how I perceive it. For example, my morning coffee of course has the same taste every day. It’s just more special today because I sip it calmly and slowly. Happy Friday, everyone!
My Ngoc, we woke up at the same time this morning. As I was eating my cereal downstairs, I saw you go down to get your cup of coffee.
Having read your response, Ngoc, I am enjoying my cup of coffee with so much more delight! Thank you. ☕️
Moments of awe generally appear when I’m least expecting them. Pay attention.
I have discovered that If I appreciate one there are so many that follow.
So true, Yram. For me it’s all about the looking.
Building my BosLoc umpire makes me feel extra protected. Branching out becomes 2nd nature. Exploration gives me a greater appreciation for my root people and what they do for me regardless of our differences.
Loc Tran. I must have missed your explanation. What is your BosLoc umpire?
I’ve been assuming you mean “empire”, Loc, but could be wrong! Looking forward to your explanation.
I too thought he meant ’empire’, not umpire…

I can find moments of awe more often than I think, if I am open to them. Kinda what the quote said.
How simple life really can be and that I often overcomplicate what it is I need to be brought joy.

“…it beats in our very blood…”
Those of us who deny it,
dear Carol Ann,
suffer more
the hollow soul.
Thank you for your comments . . .
thank you for the quote.♥
Thank you muchly for the Thomas Merton quote, Carol. One to re-read and ponder.
“Fear clings and awe lets go.” Love that, Carol Ann.
Love Thomas Merton too.
Mary and Carol Ann, « Fear clings and awe let’s go » caught my attention in a beautiful way as well. Thank you Carol Ann.🩷
I have discovered that I am a tiny, tiny part of the grand scheme.💫
