Ha- that is my struggle every day!!!
I can make time and space for the gift of silence by taking some quiet time to read before I go to bed.
This is the perfect day to choose a good chunk of quiet time. I’m feeling fatigued and overextended and my whole self is saying:
be in the quiet, let go of the doing, the perceived obligations. Return to interior space. Good to know I’m in your good company, All.
Making time and space is not necessary. Unlike ideas and feelings, it is always available. It is a Truth. The quiet is doing nothing yet is like a “wind” of being. Chatty Don can choose to ignore it, but it never changes. A few questions to self can bring the breeze of being forth – who is looking, who is listening? But then, outwardly it is like trying to describe purple to a blind person.
I make time & space for silence upon arising. I sit in prayer, reflection & meditation during this time. I focus on listening to the singing birds, part of my meditative practice. As my day moves forward I make time for silence; grounding in the sunlight, walking amongst the redwoods, sitting quietly reading. I have learned I must make the intention to be quiet. I must make it happen.
Happy Saturday to All…..❤️🙏🐝🌼🌸✨
I, unintentionally, woke up earlier than I needed to this morning and I had time for my meditation practice before work. There was some silence. There was also bird sounds, cat sounds, a bit if wind in the trees, the sound of my girlfriend waking up. All of this was noted as I returned to my breath. Again and again.
When my children were young I I would often deny the request to turn on the radio. I did not understand at the time that it was my need for silence. A rare commodity with 4 kiddos. But one day when they were older one of them said something about me not liking music. When I inquired why they thought that they mention how I never wanted the radio on.
Made me smile I explained that I do enjoy music however at that time my need for silence was more overpowering than the enjoyment of music. Opportunity for silence is a true gift in a world that can overwhelm our senses.
My day started with my cat’s very pretty, cheerful, purring-infused meowing. And meowing, and meowing, and meowing. He walked around my room announcing it was time to get up, as he does every day, but I wanted to get more sleep because I’ve been in different time zones two of the last three weeks and I’m tired. He finally left and I got more sleep. I’m up now with the sound of the dishwasher chugging and birds chirring in the trees outside. At some point I’ll go outside to sit on our small deck or patio and just look at the sky and listen to the birds. It will be quiet, not silent. If I can silence the chatter in my head that will be a gift.
Resist the temptation to fill the moments where silence presents itself.
You are never so busy to spend time with yourself . All you’ve to do is take atleast 20 mins and relax. It can be sitting somewhere in a place you love the most , you can even make your favorite coffee , it can be anything . It’ll surely bring a small amount of joy .
Thank you for reading ! 🙂
tai chi– moving through and in silence. I am so grateful to have a Tai chi master who has guided and informed my practice.
That’s so good. Keep indulging into your practice all the best to you..
Sitting in my chair in the early morning before work with my cup of coffee.
Doing my pre-work Yoga stretches, without listening to the radio. Listening to the robins calling outside.
That’s so great to hear, spending time with yourself indeed is silence and brings inner joy.
Thank you for sharing
As everyday, I make time for silence when I wake up early and the sun has just started to rise. The silence allOwns me to concentrate n my mediation and self reflection without interruption..
That is why I get up early, to enjoy the gift of silence. It is like that now, with the birds singing periodically, waking up to another day filled with sunshine. Silence is a real gift in our world. I enjoy it as often as I can.
I try to take time during the day – moments and minutes – to let the silence fill that space.
