I am apart from community, my community, and am just seeking peace with what is.

Community allows me to learn new things, taste new foods, enjoy more smells and smiles and laughter. It opens my heart to love freely, enjoying the moment and sharing in joys and sorrows. Community is like family.

There is Love and friendship to be experienced as well as joy, happiness, companionship and kindness, but also things or situations mirroring some fear or other rather difficult emotions. This feels more like an invitation to let go of them. To share and to add to the whole of what might be a gift for all, nourishing the world around with our abilities and talents, no matter how small you would consider them both in general as well as specific helps thriving our all evolving. I am deeply grateful for this chance of being with all of you here, and beyond.

Blossom, good to see you here. Blossom is one of my favorite words. I even named my name Blossom. She was a pill sometimes but I miss her.

I’m in many communities and each enriches my life in its own way, with some of them overlapping. This community gives me life perspectives, the gift of your stories, and a welcoming space every morning. My neighborhood gives me people who smile and wave as we go on our respective walks, and who grow beautiful flowers I can appreciate. The communities of interest I participate in online give me information, insights, and the occasional chuckle. The town I live in gives me parks, restaurants, a boardwalk at the water’s edge where I can sit and look at the boats and birds, miles of bike lanes and trails, the library, the farmers’ market, fare-free transit (!), a poet laureate selected every two years–a place in which to grow older and live a good life.

      Good morning, Barb,
You’ve expressed so eloquently my feelings about community. Thank you for sharing your love. (Are you MY neighbor? Where do you live? It sounds wonderful 🙂

Thank you Laurie! I’m in Olympia, WA. We moved here in late 2020. It’s the only place I’ve ever moved to where two different sets of neighbors came over to introduce themselves within a day or so of us moving in. Another neighbor who isn’t mobile sent one of her daughters over with frozen cookie dough and a half-sheet cookie pan as a housewarming gift. It’s a small town but also the state capital and home to Evergreen State College so it has quite the mix of “company town “employees and quirkiness.

Each morning I say a prayer which includes the line – “Remove me from the bondage of self so that I can better do thy will.” Being in a community does just that for me. It takes me out of my own head/worries/regrets so I can focus on serving others. When I am out of my own head and with others, I feel a part of something bigger than myself. I realize we are all in this together and when I am truly selfless, I realize the people that I thought have this all figured out are dealing with the same issues as me. This truly enriches my life.

I learn so much by observing and listening to others. I feel part of a greater whole as we swap stories of similar struggles and triumphs.

When I can help someone or someone helps me, I always think of that phrase “It takes a village.” Lives are made better. 💕
