I can meditate with my heart- follow completely with my mind and let go. I can let go truly of my biggest attachments by paying attention to whatever comes up and let go rather than following things in my mind like a dog taking a walk!

A small action I can take is to meditate in the mornings. Even just for 5 minutes, it starts the day off so strongly. This nurtures my presence and mind. Another small action I could take is to make small talk with strangers more. I would love to hear about people’s lives and it makes me feel rejuvenated after it’s done, but I do that less now.

My small action became reality today!! My daughter applied for a recovery scholarship thru Chris Herren’s organization (former Basketball player for Boston) and was awarded the scholarship today! I found the information and gave it to her. Her case manager said no one ever gets these scholarships but my sweet darling daughter did today! The scholarship is funds towards rent (2 mos) at a vetted sober living home with recovery coach for 6 mos. She needed to be recommended and write a letter on her behalf. I’m thrilled and she herself made it happen, I was just the one that presented the opportunity.

A poem I read recently that fits this question:

“All the Good” by Jana Stanfield

    I cannot do
    All the good
    That the world
    Needs
    But the world
    Needs all the good
    That I can do.

None I am willing to in this pathetic oblivion. Were my prayers too much for such a power that wants to strip one of all hope to live according to their own inclination?!

Ahh but without this power my lifespan would have already ceased…what a fun time trying to attune to something that makes me miserable…

It wants me to perceive according to its selfless eyes but all I can see are how my goals are ignored and my sacrifice of self is expected which really makes me want to escape more

Diego, what is one thing you do deeply value? Naming that for yourself would be an action in support of that value.

I try to take small actions every day.
My practices are all about taking steps
In the direction I want to go.
Staying connected , learning, staying positive,
staying healthy, expressing myself, are all
important to me and my practices keep
    me on track.

Done! We have a political battle in our state this year to protect a carbon auction that’s producing millions of dollars we can invest in active transportation, clean energy, free transit rides for youth and electric buses, and other actions that fight climate change and make our communities more livable for all. The funds are prioritized for communities that have borne too much of the burden in past decisions and for vulnerable people who are most affected by pollutants. This represents two issues at the core of what I believe in. I had searched earlier for the campaign site and it wasn’t ready yet so this was a great reminder. Before I read any of the responses, upon reading this question I did a quick search for the campaign site, found it, and signed up for their email list. Now I’ll send it to my best friends who also care about this so they can sign up.

Doing something to help another is a win for both be of us. Feeling their gratitude and knowing that I may have provided a service that connects us to each other allows me to get out of self.

I deeply value compassion. Through compassion, any walls between strangers and me are broken down. Through compassion, I find trust in individuals even though we are only connected online, such as on this site. To nurture compassion, it is essential to actively listen without bias and never compare someone’s situation to my own, even if I have experienced something similar.

Every situation is different even if they look the same. Being able to look beyond the surface goes a long ways.

Meditating every morning is a routine I’ve developed for almost 2yrs now. It’s helped me clear my mind. A clearer mind puts me in a better position to be creative.
