That place is usually on a small hill under a tree with my back against the trunk and I’m sitting on the roots or floating on my back, on a still and quiet lake.
The hill is not really a place I’ve been, but I will sometimes use this imagery when meditating.
The lake is a place (or places) I have been and I can conjure it and go there in my mind.
Made me think of this lyric.
“Would you believe in a love at first sight?
Yes, I’m certain that it happens all the time
What do you see when you turn out the light?
I can’t tell you, but I know it’s mine”
”There’s a place that I travel
When I want to roam,
And nobody knows it but me
The roads don’t go there
And the signs stay home
And nobody knows it but me
It’s far far away
And way way afar
It’s over the moon and the sea
And wherever you’re going
That’s wherever you are
And nobody knows it but me”
This poem,
‘Nobody Knows it But Me’,
written by Patrick O’Leary,
was the first thing that came into my mind
when I thought of
where I go to feel at peace . . .
it’s there in that place
in the poem.
I don’t need a car
or a train or a ticket.
I don’t need a boat or a plane or luggage . . .
I just need intention
and my breath.
That place
is the vast, wide,
and eternal Universe,
and it’s inside of me,
nestled deep in my heart,
only a breath away. ♥
Two places I can go in my mind’s eye…one is the coast, a place I sat in the tranquility of the easy waves and meditated on the 23rd Psalm. Another is a place in the Blue Ridge mountains – a drive through a wooded park that took us along a gurgling brook, where I again meditated – but this time just with breath, breeze and bliss.
The place where I remind myself that there is a part of me that has never been afraid. And I can always turn to and practice deep breathing when I am having trouble being in the moment.
There is a very special nook in the side of the foothills in Colorado Springs that I always found peace, calm, serenity, and much more there. I’ve not been able to climb to that space in quite a few years. When I’ve been in that area, the rattle snake warnings have been too high for my comfort level. I go there in my “mind’s eye.” May your weekend day be restful to all–we’ve got ☮️🫶 sun here in Minneapolis.
As others have said, focusing on my breath and being here, now, helps me find calm. Thinking of a place I can visualize takes me to the forest in nearby Squaxin Park, named for the Squaxin Island people who were the first ones to live here. It’s a legacy forest, not old growth but logged enough years ago that it again has very large old trees, many adorned with moss. Our Parks Department maintains winding soft-surface trails through the woods. I go there to walk and to be with myself, away from screens and tasks.
When I ride my bike home from our downtown, as I did yesterday, I take a route that brings me up through the park. I’m always happy to enter that green, lush space. Our neighborhood backs up to the park so I see some of its tall trees every morning through my kitchen window. It’s part of my life even when I’m not inside it. This question helps me recognize that it’s always inside me.
Coming back to awareness of breath is helpful when in need for calm and peace and in addition, choosing a grateful perspective will help to settle inside again. Thank you for this question. May you all experience peace and and happiness today.
I can find peace anywhere. It’s a matter of mindset. “Improve to live” is one of my slogans. Enough is enough. I don’t chase for more. It leads to burnout. Instead, I’m content with whatever I have. Afterall, all my deficient needs are met.
To me, peace is not about a place, but about a way. When I am truly seeking peace, and I don’t have a place at the moment, I’ll find a way to peace. It could be music, my own singing voice, or a cute picture.
The woods. And since we all have fantastic imaginations, I can go to any woods I want. Yet, there is one I go to often. There is a place in Canada where I go most years to ski. Cross country ski in the Niagara Escarpmemt, above Lake Superior. About 20 years ago, I had, what I can only call a spiritual experience there, out of the blue, that was so intense, it has stayed in my body, mind, and energetic field like it was yesterday. With intention, I can close my eyes, and return to a place of utter peace and knowing all will be well.♥️

was present
in so many responses today. ♥
So beautifully put Sparrow
Thank you,

would you believe that poem
was written
to use in a car commercial? 🙂
Really!!! Never know where you will find truth!
walking in nature, on a quiet beach & being on the sailboat

The universe.

It always comes back to the breath. 🙂
Thank you Carol Ann- the universe is us ! Hugs 🤗

Hills Creek State Park comes to mind – lots of good memories there.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday ☮

My Ngoc, your long hair and natural sweet voice are the ways to seek peace for me.
It is usually some scene in nature. The scene has a body of water, warm temps, and trees.

I just close my eyes and do some breathwork. It offers a more peaceful state every time, as it activates the parasympathetic nervous system.
