Tonight it was a beautiful pink sky sunset. I smile thinking of my upcoming trip to visit my beautiful daughter and then my grandson over the weekend. He is 14 going on 15 and wanted to do exactly what we did last year lol. It makes me smile knowing he enjoyed our time together. 💕✨
I smile knowing I will get a break from work- it’s been so busy.

There are so many kinds of smiles,
    so I thought I would split some hairs . . .
    after church one day
    I asked my mother
why she smiled differently at the church people
    than she did at home,
and she seemed to not know what I was talking about.
I was 9 or 10 at the time,
and never did get an answer,
but I thought about it a lot.
The smile she gave to the church people
    was always a little nervous . . .
    I figured that out later.
The smile at home was relaxed.

Kevin smiled at me just before he shot the gun at me.
The sales clerks in the shops and stores
    sometimes don’t smile at all,
while the nurses and receptionists at the doctor’s office
usually offer a cool, professional smile.

    There was a young girl
who lived next door when I lived at the old place
    who always smiled at me
as if she had been waiting her whole life
    for me to come along.
    Her name was Claire.

    Then there is my husband
who always smiles at me with twinkle in his eye.

Someone who smiles at me with genuine affection
always gets a smile back from me,
    and sometimes I smile first . . .
I smile when something pleases me
    or tickles my fancy.
I smile when I find a treasure in Nature,
like the time I found a seahorse on the beach in Alabama,
    or was given the privilege
of turning on the lamp in a lighthouse on the coast of Maine.
I smile when I see a spider whose been soaked with a hose
    pull his legs up
    one by one
until he is as good as new,
and I smile at the people whose paths I cross in the course of a day,
    always adding a twinkle.

    It doesn’t take much
    and it’s free. ♥

your mention of the spider is timely as my best friend had just yesterday sent me this folklore story of the xmas spider – besides Irish, I am also German too so I loved reading about this – definitely getting a spider and web new ornament for next xmas

So many things make me smile. While driving this morning, one small thing that I just experienced, was people voluntarily alternating (or doing the zipper) in traffic, when one lane has the legal right of way, but, people allow the other cars to come into there lane alternately. So civilized! They don’t have to do this. But I think people understand that they could be stuck in that lane at some point.
It happens every day at a couple of intersections near my house. It’s just an understood agreement.
Makes me smile to see people cooperating.

I’ve experienced this “zipper” effect too,
      dear Charlie,
      especially on interstates
with exits and on ramps near cities. ♥

Savor that polite merging, Charlie. I live near an intersection where people practice many different driving conventions, to the point of chaos … I appreciate the kindness when it happens, but it’s choppy and you gotta grit your teeth. Your intersections sound like a breath of fresh air.

I frequently smile when reading responses to the daily question. I always smile at babies and pre-school children at play. And I make it a habit to smile when I encounter others throughout my day. Thich Nhat Hanh says a smile is the simplest form of meditation.

The first thing that came to mind was my student, Jim, who made a funny face yesterday when I invited the class into Goddess pose. I told him I knew how much he loved the pose and that it was time to connect to his inner goddess. We all had a little laugh together and continued practicing. Being able to teach yoga makes me smile. Getting to meet and connect with so many amazing people makes me smile.

Random conversation with a stranger while on a walk makes me smile. I had a nice chat about dogs with an older gentleman yesterday while at one of the parks we like to go to.

The fluffy black cat that lives a few streets behind mine makes me smile. I always look for him when we’re walking. He has a bed on his porch and is usually in it, but occasionally he’ll be up at the gate of his driveway guarding his property. I always say hi to him. He’s fluffier than my BC was, but reminds me of my soul cat… same energy.

Our dogs make me smile. Babies make me smile. The group of blue birds I saw fluttering around a tree the other day. Watching funny dog and cat videos on social media. My friend sending me a picture of her gorgeous red amaryllis flowers that just bloomed. The monks’ journey to DC continues to make me smile.

Being able to look at myself in the mirror with love instead of all the negative stuff I used to see makes me smile. Thinking about my journey, even the yucky parts, because it all brought me to where I am right here, right now. And I really love how much I have grown. Life is good 🙂
