The most influential teachers in my spiritual development have been Eckhart Tolle and Ram Das. It is wonderful to be able to listen to their talks on YouTube when ever I need a pick-me-up. I first got Eckhart’s book The Power of Now 20 years ago and it lifted me out of total dispair. It has been a work in progress ever since then. Ram Dass inspires me so much because he was a very gifted speaker and teacher but had a stroke when he was 66 which left him wheelchair bound, in constant pain and unable to speak. Despite that he never lost his sense of humour, his love for everyone and his deep spiritual conviction. He died aged 88. As someone who has been bedbound for 22 years now I find that example inspiring. Whenever things get a bit much I remind myself – if Ram Dass could do this then so can I.
I have been gifted for many years with two Spiritual Directors along my path. I am still grateful to know and connect with one of these women, occasionally in person. With both having walked this path with me, I have come to know a Way of Kindness and a depth of spiritual intelligence that has deepened my purpose and the gifts of my Life. There is a Psalm, 27:13-14, that serves as reminder for me: “I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your heart take courage.”
Eckhart Toole. Alan Watts, although I view him more as a philosopher of spiritual matters. Life is spiritual and our world from which life springs forth is also a spiritual teacher. I need only awareness and acceptance while I observe.
Chung Van Gog, that’s a good one. I remember Shunryu Suzuki learning a lot from the buddha. Suzuki talked about him at length in his “Zen Mind, Beginners Mind” book.

And you carry on the inspiration, Butterfly.
I was given The Power Of Now a couple
of years ago by my new elderly neighbor, and WOW! It’s had an impact on my life.
Thank you, Butterfly. Your words were needed by me today.

Pilgrim, The quote from Psalm 27 reminds me that there is quite a difference in the land of the living and the land of the existing!

Yes Joseph, the present of being
present.
Yes, “awareness and acceptance.”
The Buddha.
