Reflections of Life produces gorgeous short films that uplift the personal stories of ordinary people, with the goal of sharing ideas and inspiring change. We feel hugely blessed to feature video-stories that filmmakers Michael and Justine capture with exquisite expertise, and which so beautifully illustrate grateful living principles and practices. In this short film we hear from Vicki Thomas.

If I had a tombstone it would have on it, ‘Vicki, who always said “Oh Look!”‘, because that’s what I’m always doing.
I think every kid is fascinated with nature, given the opportunity to look at it. It’s there, all this information, waiting for you to discover it. It’s thrilling.
If you look at a plant you’re not just looking at a plant, you’re looking at life. And you work out how it grows, the physics of it, the chemistry of it, the smell of it, the mathematics of it. It’s all fascinating.
I’m dying for everybody to see what I see because it’s so wonderful.
If you study something really, really thoroughly, what happens is you have this desire to express it, and you feel obliged to do it justice. It’s a visual demonstration of my connection to the earth. It really effects me very deeply, looking at the beauty of it all.
We all have difficulties in our lives, but for me the easiest thing is, how do I feel right now?
I can remember when I was about five, looking in the mirror at myself, you know, who am I? Looking there and going… (grins)… like this… (laughs). I look better when I’m smiling (laughs). And I can remember at that point thinking, I think I’m going to be happy (laughs).
The world that I dream of is the one that we’ve got because I think it’ i’s absolutely incredible. My job is just to look. I think that’s why I’m here. It’s my greatest pleasure. It’s what makes life worth living.
