In the leaf, in the bud,
in the shell-colored sand.
In the eye of a fly,
in the rainy-day sun.

In the moth, in the flame,
in the cloud-covered sky.
In the stars that alight,
in the blink of an eye.

In the bellies of beasts
asleep in their lair.
In the noonday birdsong,
in the midnight air.

In the fluttering wings
that ruffle the pines.
In the quietest corner
of your heart and mine.

In any time that ever was,
in any world however brief.
A single flame runs through it all:
a love beyond belief.

Open your soul-ears,
this is your song.
Even in silence
you are humming along.
