SOURCE OF ALL BLESSINGS,
you bless us with surf, with its
ever new moods and voices, its
thunder, its whisper, its hissing, its
growl, its groan, its laughter, its
music, its roar; with its shades of
gray and green and blue and brown
and its rainbows now and then;
with its spray, its foam, its spit;
and with its innumerable smells I
cannot name. May I, no matter how
far away from the ocean, hear, see,
smell, and feel it in my heart.
Sense how it feels to honor the changing activity, sounds, and rhythm of surf. When we notice the range of expressions of that which emerges from the fullness, depth, and majesty of the ocean, we can expand our capacity to appreciate diversity that comes from a single source.
“May this patchwork quilt of blessings help to sharpen your taste for the gift of life in its innumerable facets,” Br. David writes. “May you grow ever more blessed, ever more able to bless.”

The surf is reminiscent of Christ miraculously walking on water. It is a constant reminder that all things are possible with Him and that we, too, can collectively reach the mountaintop of glory as long as we remain focused on Him, His will, and the purpose for which He has designated our individual lives. We are eternally grateful for His unconditional love, unquestionable favor, and everlasting blessings. It is the desire of my heart that we be recipients of His blessings that we may truly find within us, peace, love, and joy!
I recently went to the beach with a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. This was at a park about 30 minutes from Beaufort South Carolina and named hunting island. There was pretty good wave action and we both went out far enough that we could catch some of the larger waves. I haven’t done body surfing in such a long time. I felt young, connected and vital in a real earthly way .
