By being there and be present and care in loving kindness to what is sacred to me as well as to others.

One thing that is very sacred to me is the environment. I live in Rhode Island for a reason, it is the ocean state and as small as it is
the state is very strict about protecting its open space and wooded areas. We do not have sky scraper hotels and apartments along the ocean frontage. My son also went to college for Environmental studies and I have to admit I kind of nudged him toward it. I help preserve also by recycling
and volunteer work to help clean up trash on Earth days. I also try to find local talks and seminars on the subject.

Water is scarred and so is Mother Earth. I try my best to use less and buy less. I try to clean up garbage or do things to help preserve our mother. We have to all do our best so that our whole kingdom will bloom and grow.

I preserve what is most sacred to me by caring for whatever it is…and loving, and believing. My husband, my animals, my home and land are most sacred to me….this questions will help me do better.

I preserve by acting upon what I hold sacred: I write letters to politicians, read books… evolve my notions. I’ve found that when other’s sense of sacred it limited to their own and extended clan that excludes the rest of humanity I reacted with disdain. Once again after reading the previous reflections my own reflection expands to hold others perceptions of scared with the same reverence as I do my own. Now I’m just sad. And that’s Ok for now.

Everything is sacred to me. Even the darkness that enters my life. Without darkness, how would I know light? That said, I always come back to the willingness to see. I spent a lot of years seeking answers until I learned to live my questions and trust that I would be shown a way. For me, Faith is not about dogma. It’s about learning to trust. I don’t think there is a specific plan for one’s life. We make our way with the willingness to see and the faith to take each step. Willingness is how I do my best to preserve the sacred. I share a poem I wrote several years ago when a dear cousin said, “We never left the garden. We just think we did.”
CLEAR SEEING by Carol Ann Conner

WE ARE PILGRIMS ON THE JOURNEY.
WE SEARCH BUT ALL PATHS LEAD NO WHERE.
WHY? BECAUSE, WE NEVER LEFT THE GARDEN.
    WE JUST THINK WE DID.

    AND WHAT WE THINK MANIFESTS.
AND WHAT MANIFESTS BECOMES OUR REALITY —
A REALITY THAT DENIES OUR BIRTHRIGHT
    AND IMPRISONS OUR VERY SOUL.

SO LET US RE-MEMBER THE GARDEN.
GATHER BENEATH THE TREE OF LIFE.
ROOT OURSELVES IN ITS AGELESS WISDOM
AND BECOME WHAT WE WERE MEANT TO BE.

    WHOLE, HOLY, ONE WITH NATURE,
    FATHER, MOTHER, BROTHER, SISTER, FRIEND,
    SUMMER, WINTER, SPRING, AND FALL,
    GIVING THANKS FOR IT ALL.

Thank you Carol. It could be we were “Told we were banished from the garden.” The concept of being tainted at birth (original sin) never has set with my being.

Joseph, I think you would find the book, “Original Blessing” by Matthew Fox interesting.

      Carol,
I really like your perspective on trust. Recently, I have been asking a lot of questions and wanting to seek answers to them. It got to a point where it became obsessive, “is this the answer? is this the ‘right’ answer?” Like you have said, I am realizing now that it’s more important to live the questions and trust the answer will be shown. And it may not, which is okay too. Because as I let go of the urge to seek these answers, other questions will appear and those answers will lead to me somewhere else, somewhere more loving, more kind.

Jenifer, I hear you. .For me, today’s quote kind of says it all:
“Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.”Omar Khayyam
I’m thankful to have realized that I am life. You are life. The rose bush in my back yard is life. While I was waiting for answers, I was existing not living and missing half the show!

To continue my involvement with Alamosa River Keepers. To continue practicing good stewardship on our small forage farm. To keep raising vegetables along with grass fed beef for my family and loved ones. Try not to despair about the condition of our planet and to continue to be grateful for today and gratitude for all the good folks who reflect and help guide me on these pages. Namaste.

By modeling respect, reverence, and care for that which is sacred, when it is close to my heart, certainly, but also honoring that which is sacred to others, too.

Michele, I’m smiling. My son and I were telling family stories last weekend. We were remembering the stories we were told about great Aunt Hannah whose husband was a bootlegger during prohibition. She use to load up the wagon with her small children, put the whiskey under the seat where they sat and drive through town making her deliveries. She got wind that her bootlegging husband was cheating on her so she shot him–not to kill just to set him straight! Those were the days!

By honoring it, being grateful for it, and giving it the attention it should get. What is sacred to me? Love, my marriage, family, truth, taking care of the environment around me and taking care of this vessel I’ve been given to live in.

Thank you SUNNYPATTI, your reminder to take care of the vessel we were given to live in – is a great reminder. Thank you for your thoughts and wisdom.
