To be able to cook and share a meal with my new friend that I have recently met, she is suffering Depression and just by listening and being they’re for her makes me feel that I am contributing to society.

I was meditating and my lovely 14 year old dog, came to lay next to me whilst doing it, I took a nap afterwards and he stayed with me , and I think that is delightful.

Covid has come to visit, so the delight today is in hot honey and lemon drinks, warm showers, paracetamol and rest.

So many things add delight to my life….
My Health, the Loving Environment around me, the Love I got to experience and be in this year, visiting new places, learning to slow down.

Being aware of the mystery and complexity of everything adds delight to my life. To think that I am made of stardust, that subatomic particles can influence each other at seemingly infinite distances without any time passing, that people mysteriously seem to have precognitive awareness despite this seeming to contradict the Standard Model of physics, that people have accurate veridical perceptions during near-death experiences, and that a whole variety of other wonders and mysteries exist out in the universe.

Is delight the same as joy? If yes, then it comes from giving . Giving time, a smile, appreciation . I don‘t have money which I can give but I can give good thoughts or prayers for people in my surroundings. A kind word or a light touch can give joy. Looking into somebodies eyes whom I don‘t know often is rewarded with a smile from human to human. I love that.

Watching the gawky fledgling starlings gobble up the soaked mealworms I put out for them and the sparrows collecting beakfuls to take back to their chicks still in the nest.
Watching the flowers come into bloom..
    Interacting with my two granddaughters.
Tasty food and a hot cup of coffee.

I find so many things delightful. From yesterday alone (my day off) here’s a few things that brought delight and joy.
Sitting outside in the morning with my coffee. Watching my cats play. Making tacos with my girlfriend. Taking a walk with our neighbor. Eating cherries from the tree. But mostly, just being able to be intentional and present in those moments.

Waking to the scent of coffee brewing, of mixing the sugar and milk and slowly savoring the first sip.
Spotting the first skunk cabbage, hepatica, twin leaf in the still barren, brown and cold winter woods, witnessing signs of the coming warmth while bundled in my winter coat and scarf.
Late afternoon light in the woods.
The way the air shifts and changes on a walk, warm in the open meadow and like a smooth cold stone on my cheek in the shade by a stream.
Knowing when and where to expect the moon, following its phases.
Molly, my dog, her innocence, her purity, her joy in just being, her renewed excitement over the same things again and again, dancing in circles in anticipation of the same meal that she eats every single day.
Sinking into a book when I know I am reading just the right thing at just the right time.
Noticing what seems to be insignificant – a tiny mushroom growing from a fallen branch, the odd ice formations on the bank of a creek, the delicate little bloom peeking from the leaf litter or amongst the refuse of the ditch.
Witnessing the sparsely abundant growth of spring, when the once delicate and unsure little seedlings just begin to burst with the confidence of survival.
The first bite of cold watermelon on a sultry summer day.

Freshly washed bed linens, dried in the sun on a clothe line. My cat sitting on my shoulder purring. New blossoms on shrubs and trees. A colourful sunset. A pastel sunrise. Dandelion flowers punctuating my lawn. So much to be delighted about.

That takes me back in time, dragonfly – freshly washed bed linens, dried in the sun – thank you! Dandelions, too – not so far back in time. My daughter and her friend, when they were young, happily carrying bunches of dandelions. More thanks!
