I struggle with the church, with the state, with our society, which no longer seems to function. Everything organizational works (we are in Germany after all) but the glue is missing. The church can no longer provide that, nor can the politicians in government responsibility. Who do we Germans have that we can listen to, that comforts us and gives us confidence?
When I start looking, I naturally find peace everywhere. Now, here, in this moment. Everything is good as soon as my thoughts stop circling around the attack in Magdeburg. When I am simply here and feel the life. I know that if I go out for a run – in nature. I will find peace there. And so I will always find peace everywhere.
It always seems to be only excerpts from the whole of life. Where I direct my focus. And it is my choice. Always
In this very moment. Always. In the heart of my father when I embraced him and held his hands while he said “now the world is ok again” after moments of deep despair.. In the heart when Peace and Love is one
Peace, let it begin with me. I share an excerpt from “Being Peace” by Thich Nhat Hanh:
Breathing in, I calm my body.
Breathing out, I smile.
Dwelling in the present moment
I know this is a wonderful moment.
Breathing in, I calm my body.’ This line is like drinking a glass of ice water-you feel the cold, the freshness, permeate your body. When I breathe in and recite this line, I actually feel the breathing calming my body, calming my mind.
‘Breathing out, I smile.’ You know the effect of a smile. A smile can relax hundreds of muscles in your face, and relax your nervous system. A smile makes you master of yourself. That is why the Buddhas and the bodhisattvas are always smiling. When you smile, you realize the wonder of the smile.
Dwelling in the present moment. While I sit here, I don’t think of somewhere else, of the future or the past. I sit here, and I know where I am. This is very important. We tend be alive in the future, not now. We say, ‘Wait until I finish school and get my Ph.D. degree, and then I will be really alive.
‘When we have it, and it’s not easy to get, we say to ourselves, ‘I have to wait until I have a job in order to be really alive. And then after the job, a car. After the car, a house. We are not capable of being alive in the present moment. We tend to postpone being alive to the future, the distant future, we don’t know when. Now is not the moment to be alive. We may never be alive at all in our entire life. Now is not the moment to be alive. We may never be alive at all in our entire life. Therefore the technique, if we have to speak of a technique, is to be in the present moment, to be aware that we are here and now, and the only moment to be alive is the present moment. ‘I know this is a wonderful moment.’ This is the only moment that is real. To be here and now, and enjoy the present moment is our most wonderful task.
‘Calming, Smiling, Present moment, Wonderful moment.’ I hope you will try it.
Thank you Carol. After reading this meditation I feel refreshed.
Breathing in I calm my body,
Breathing out I smile
Dwelling in the present moment
I know this is a wonderful moment.
I love this!
My heart and soul are at peace presently on this very chilly Sunday. 18 degrees but feels like 7. Looking forward to going to the new Celtic show at 3pm. Have a great day all!
Peace is with me here on the sofa in the form of a warm cat curled up on my lap after giving himself a bit of a bath there. It’s present too in the hot cup of coffee my husband brought me, and the French press he just set to steeping for a future refill. Peace is in the long breaths I inhale, then exhale, as I consider this question.
Peace stretches ahead in the week’s vacation I’m taking. It started yesterday with biking down to the community center and taking an art class, making mandalas with one of my best friends, then getting lunch and shopping a bit after, then taking a long nap when I got home. Peace is here right when I needed it after a work week with a lot of stresses and deadlines.
I only wish peace were present in more places in the world, in places where they know no peace because of war, hardship, famine.
This brings to my mind a poem by Thich Nhat Hanh. I feel that he has special credibility, since he lived through horrendous violence during the Vietnam War.
Our true home is in the present moment.
To live in the present moment is a miracle.
The miracle is not to walk on water.
The miracle is to walk on the green Earth in the present moment,
to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now.
Peace is all around us in the world and in nature, and within us;
It is in our bodies and our spirits.
Once we learn to touch this peace,
we will be healed and transformed.
It is not a matter of faith,
it is a matter of practice.
Thank you for today’s question, as it will help me remember throughout the day today to make efforts to “touch this peace”
I have heard this saying recently, “Don’t fight it, don’t fix it, don’t figure it out”. Peace for me is letting go of the need to control the situation and the people around me and just let come what may. Happy Sunday, everyone.
Peace is present right now in the quietness of my home on this chilly morning (heat is on!)
Happy Sunday everyone. May you all find peace throughout the day:)
Go Birds! 💚🦅
I feel it in the quiet of the morning. I feel in in the way the dawn light reflected on the building.
I feel it in the hope of anticipation for Joy in the world.
Peace is in my being, our home right now. We have had a stream of company since last Wednesday. It is a wonderful opportunity when we can offer friends comfort, good food, fluid conversations, laughter, silence, a good night’s rest. And Peter and I are so grateful for our friends and those opportunities. There is such a sense of peace in having done that without too much fuss and hustle. And now, a different kind of peace is in our space. Quiet, back to our morning practices, quiet conversation. Peace to each of you this first full day of winter. ❄️

I hear you, was so sad to hear that news.
I think residents in any country feel the same way.
My thoughts are with you and everyone affected by the senseless Magdeburg attack. I will light a candle on this site.

Where is peace present right now?
I feel peace within myself right now.
I’m feeling peaceful
and I’m wishing peace to all.
Peace peace peace ♥️

So beautiful Elizabeth.
I read it 3 times and will make a copy of it.
Thank you!
This is perhaps
the most important sentence…
“It is not a matter of faith,
it is a matter of practice.”
Amen, Sparrow.
Absolutely!
Just like being grateful.
Love the poem, thanks for sharing
Peace is present in my heart.
We are manipulated with hate and fear.
Peace and love is our natural state.
I like this, Charlie. Thank you.
Peace is here !

Totally agree, Marnie. It comes on its terms.
Peace is here, in me, at my core. I am peace.

Your sharing is beautiful, Mary.
And peace to you as well.
Thank you, Mary.
In my heart and mind. And in my home as the dogs are still on their beds waiting for me to wake them for breakfast. Happy Sunday!
